BLUE STAR MEMORIAL MARKER DEDICATION
Just over one year from the time a possible 'new project' was brought up at the May meeting, Arrowhead Garden Club's Blue Star Memorial Marker became a reality.  It began with a site.  Chairman, Jan Weeks and committee members Pat Fussner, Analee Hodge, Helen Lindeman and Mary Lunsford unanimously selected the lakeside Lake Ozark Roadside Park on Business 54 and Fish Haven Road in Lake Ozark.  Club member Shirley Wicker contacted the Elk's Lodge #2517 and they donated the cost of the Marker.  Club members volunteered to contact local businesses and soon we had the labor on building a four stone high, eight foot diameter raised bed and next came a donation of the stone.  Money came from area businesses, 3 grocery stores, 2 banks, a dental clinic and the lake realty association, Lake Bloomers Garden Club and Dogwood Garden Club and a husband and wife.  The Marker arrived in January 2010 and was installed in March.  Solar lights were attached to the stonework, soil was brought in and plants were purchased.  Club member Susan Creel designed the invitations and the dedication program.  The Marker Dedication Ceremony was held on Armed Forces Day, May 15th, 2010 at the Roadside Park.  Close to 50 people attended (with umbrellas). The Scout Master and Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #21, Lake Ozark did the Presentation of Color and led the audience in The Pledge of Allegiance.  Local Director of the Lake Area Chorale, Michael Lindeman, sang "Armed Forces Prayer".  Vice President Helen Lindeman gave the Welcome; Jan Weeks introduced the guests.  Cynthia Brodersen , our FGCM Blue Star Chairman gave the history.  Bonnie Urlish, Exalted Ruler of Elk's Lodge #2517 and Byron Grimes, Chaplin of American Legion Post 229 gave the Military Tribute.  Mary Lunsford, this year's Chairman of the Arrowhead Garden Club Blue Star Memorial Marker, Pat Fussner and Marilyn Needham unveiled the marker and Lake Ozark Mayor, Johnnie Franzeskos accepted the Marker and the ceremony closed with a prayer read by Michael Lindeman and written by his 97 year old father, a retired Colonel.  Refreshments followed the ceremony.
