News from the Director
Welcome to the new club presidents! I’ve enjoyed the installations and meeting the members and new officers. It looks to be an exciting year ahead.
As I look through the yearbooks I see so many interesting programs that I would love to attend. When timing between family, work, and other projects allows I may ask to attend. I see these as learning opportunities while enjoying the company of fellow garden club members.
Central District has our own new website address
www.centraldistrict.gardenclubsofmissouri.org The other website hosted by Garden Central will cease to exist March 31, 2010. As the new state website is developed, which is happening fairly quickly, it will all be available but please pass along to all members the new web address. You can still use the FGCM website address at
www.gardenclubsofmissouri.org. Be sure to send photos and updates about programs and projects to Elaine Fix, Webmaster at
efix@earthlink.net . The more your club has items posted the more people will find out about all you do and more chances you have to gain new members.
New Presidents can also find a ‘President’s Kit – Item 5130’ very helpful from NGC, Inc. This is on page 11 of your NGC Member Services Catalog.
Central District Spring meeting
The Spring District meeting will be April 16th, in Tipton. Please note this date as the one listed on the FGCM calendar was incorrect. Grow and Glow Garden Club will be our host and it looks to be shaping up into a fun learning program. Committee Chairmen will give reports (3 minutes or less) on what clubs did this past year within their category.
The Fall District meeting will be September 10th in Fulton, MO.
77th FGCM State Convention
The State Convention will be April 22 – 24, in Chesterfield, MO. There will be interesting seminars, tours, and programs. Be sure to enter the “Garden Walk” art show and contest. We have so many talented members in our district and it’s so fun to see it displayed. I’m hoping there will be many awards within our District to be announced also!

News from the Director
The gardening season and garden club year are well on their way. Many projects have been undertaken. Central District had a wonderful 2008 with many awards received in recognition of their accomplishments. I hope that 2009 is as fruitful for our 13 clubs. This will be my last district newsletter. It’s hard to believe that my 2 years as your district director is almost over but time passes quickly. It has been a pleasure being the district director and I have appreciated getting to know so many great people throughout Central District. We REALLY do have the best District!! I hope to see all of you at the Fall District meeting and at future meetings.
76th FGCM State Convention
The FGCM Convention was a great success again this year. Many garden clubs enjoyed great workshops and the tour. Dues were increased, so remember clubs will need to pay $10 per member to FGCM for 2010. The webmaster was added to the FGCM Executive Board. Donations may now be made to the Donna Lantry Blue Star Memorial Fund. All in all, it was a good convention, I hope to see you at it next year.
Central District Fall Meeting
Ashland Garden Club will host the CD Fall meeting on September 24 at the Ashland Baptist Church at 203 E. Broadway, Ashland. The speaker will be Britt Neyby, member of Show Me Gourd Society & the American Gourd Society. He will give the program “You Gotta Love Gourds”. The new officers for 2009-11 will be installed by FGCM President, Jean Roseman.
Club Presidents are asked to make a 3 minute or less report on their club’s activities for 2009.
Central District Information Workshop
CD will hold an information workshop on Tuesday, September 29th 1 pm at the Boone County Extension Center 1012 N. Hwy UU, Columbia. Three- one hour sessions will be presented to all attending on filling out the President Report Form, compiling a Yearbook, and putting together a Book of Evidence. This will be a great workshop for club officers or any member wanting assistance on compiling information for some of these forms. Please send a representative from each club. Central District will cover costs for this workshop.
NGC Schools
Garden Study Course I is now on line. The Course costs $100 which isn’t bad considering you don’t have to travel and pay a hotel to take it, plus it can be taken on your time. Flower Show Course IV will be held on October 16-18. The FS Students that have completed 2 courses have begun to exhibit in design and horticulture for credit toward certification, FS Students that have completed 3 courses can now start to judge flower shows. Central District will have 6 additional FS Judges when everyone completes, what a help this will be when time comes to obtaining FS Judges for shows. Invite FGCM School Participants to present a program sharing their knowledge obtained from these schools.
Thank You Central District
FGCM Flower Show Student Judges of Central District have been invited to enter Central District flower shows, THANK YOU. Allowing us to exhibit & judge at your flower shows allows us the opportunity to receive credits needed, plus stay close to home. With the cost of schools, hotels, and gas it has been a major investment and any savings is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much from Central District Flower Show School Students.

Do Something Nice For Your Club President
Mary Ann Meador, FGCM Historic Preservation chair suggest that we do something nice for our club presidents. She suggest that clubs do a scrapbook for your club president for one year. Turn it in at the 2010 State Convention for viewing and receive a prize for the club president to share with her club. Books can be big, small upside down, or right side up, your president will love whatever you do and you will have preserved your club history in the process.
